January 6th, 2009 Who was the world's first undefeated Jujitsu tournaments champion?

  • I know the answer, but I just want to see who really knows their martial arts history. I'll give the real answer after 7 incorrect answers or the correct answer comes first, either or.

  • my mom

  • Your mom!!

  • noone cares about jujitsu anymore....its a brazillian jui jitsu world now

  • it's not Royce, it's his older brother Rickson Gracie 400 plus victories and no defeats, a legend in BJJ.

i was also thinking Helio Gracie but im pretty sure he was defeated once by Masahiko Kimura.

so if its not Rickson it's probably Esai Maeda, the guy who brought Jui Jitsu to Brazil.

  • Shiro Saigo, who represented Kano's Jujitsu (aka Judo) against an opponent of the "old" jujitsu

  • No idea.

A lot of the early Judo tournaments were essentially called Jujitsu tournaments, I would say Kimura but he had lost 4 times (before avenging those losses). But going by what you have placed as a sport Jujitsu style tournament rules, I probably am thinking of something completely different.

However, Jujitsu was associated with Judo and not Jujutsu which is the older form, so my assumption about Jujitsu would be mostly right, at least stemming from Kano style Jujitsu (the i didn't come in until Kano's styel) I would think. But hell so many people have so many parts of their art that claim this and that, and there are probably a ton of tournaments and competetions of various degrees and styles that most people aren't aware of.

To my knowledge tournament style formats were introduced in Japan by Kano.. but hell there could have been stuff there before.

My blind *** shot in the dark would be Kimura.

  • Hey William P: When I said 'We hate you because you hate us', i didn't mean you specifically.

And I don't really hate them (or you). I was just generalizing because you were. Atleast I thought you were.

  • Hansuke Nakamura (he was defeated by Mitsuyo Maeda)

    thats my best guess.

Rickson Gracie would be it for the Brazilian side(his first major victories were in Japan i think)

Tell us, i'd love to know.
