I was born an Australian citizen and I will become a US citizen in the next year (naturalized). I know that it is perfectly acceptable to have dual citizenship in this case.
Now, what if I married someone from...say...Ireland. Would I be able to obtain citizenship from a third country? Which countries would allow this?In fact you are wrong. The USA does not allow dual citizenship, and to become a US citizen you have to give up any other citizenships and swear allegiance to the USA. It is true that some US citizens have retained passports of other countries, especially of countries like India, Pakistan, Philippines etc, but in fact, those countries do not allow dual citizenship either, so they are committing criminal offences twice. You should remember, that if you become a US citizen under false pretences.ie.you lie about having given up other citizenships, you can have your US citizenship revoked at any time, and be deported from the USA, even if it is discovered 50 years later. It has a happened plenty of times before. You should ask yourself why you would want to be a US citizen, and retain another citizenship. If you don't want to give up your Austalian citizenship, and are a US permanent resident, you can keep that status for ever, as long as you update it in accordance with the law. I assume you were asking about the REPUBLIC of Ireland. If you marry an Irish citizen who can support ou in Ireland, you apply to immigrate there, and are allowed to, which is by no means certain, You can then get a job, support yourself as a temporary resident in Ireland for 5 years, and then apply for citizenship. That is the same as most European countries. If you want to find out about citizenship regulations for any country in the world, you should first check the country's Embassy website, which will either tell you iyou regulations, or direct you to where you can find it. However, Yahoo answers is hardly a reliable place to get that type of complex information.Australia does. I have UK, NZ and Aus citizenship and 3 passportsYes you can, but getting Irish citizenship would involve living in Ireland for a period of years.
Becoming a US citizen does not require you to give up citizenship in another country. There are many dual citizens in the US.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
